Brand Story

The Honey Bee Media brand story

I’ve lived and breathed journalism for over two decades.

I specialise in human-interest stories - interviewing people who’ve overcome challenges that felt insurmountable.

At times, it can be confronting. But I’ve always believed this:
Good people doing important things deserve to be seen.

Honey Bee Media brand story: How it all started

People think journalism is about writing. It’s not.

It’s about listening. Properly.

Luckily for me, it’s a skill I have in droves.

It’s why, after completing my master’s degree in journalism, I landed one of the few cadetships going at the time – a golden ticket into journalism.

Within months, I was poached by a regional news agency writing for the British national press.

I built a reputation for getting the story behind the story - the ones no one else could get.

My secret? I treated people with respect - and took the time to listen. Really listen. And that’s when people opened up.

After winning this major award in 2008, I was headhunted by Pacific Magazines in Sydney.

Big stories, big audience

I climbed the ranks to News Editor at New Idea - one of Australia's biggest selling weekly magazines.

At the time, our total audience was 3.4 million.

I loved the responsibility, the pressure, and the strategy that came with running the true-life section of the magazine.

The work was fast-paced and exciting. And I got to work with some ridiculously talented people.

But when I became a mum in 2015, something changed

I realised I didn’t miss the meetings.

I missed the stories. The writing. The interviewing. The creating.

So when I returned to work, I did so on a freelance basis.

It allowed me to do what I actually loved. Writing human stories for New Idea, Woman’s Day, Marie Claire, Who, SMH, Kidspot and more.

Life was brilliant.

And then came 2020

When the pandemic wiped out most of my regular freelance work, someone said, “Why not try copywriting?”

So I did.

I took an SEO course with Kate Toon and got to work. As well as writing blogs and web copy, I also wrote press releases and video scripts.

Clients raved about my:

  • Research and interviewing skills
  • Ability to bring dull topics to life
  • Natural knack for making content feel human.

    But something was missing.

I didn’t want to churn out content just for content’s sake

I wanted to tell stories that made people feel something. To inform, to move, to provoke action.

So I shifted my focus to work with purpose-led businesses and organisations doing powerful, meaningful work.

Their impact matters. But it’s often missed - because they’re not telling the right stories. Or they’re not telling them right.

My job is to fix that. Because if no one feels it, no one funds it, shares it, or champions it.

What I do now

I help you create brand stories that give your audience goosebumps.

Customer case studies that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

I’m not your average marketer.

I’m an award-winning journalist who knows how to ask the right questions - and craft the kind of stories people remember, trust and act on.

Because if your work already changes lives, it’s time your content did too.

Put my 20 years of storytelling experience to the test. You won’t be disappointed.
